September 25, 2012 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Springfield Jr. Blues News Release
The Jr. Blues continue their 4-game home stand as the NAHL's two oldest franchises will meet this Friday and Saturday night with games at 7 PM.
The Ice Dogs were Robertson cup semi-finalists last season and are off to a 4-2 start this season. They come to Springfield after earning a split last weekend in Janesville.
Tickets are available before game time at the Nelson Center or County Markets or at the door for $10 for adults and $5 for children 17 and under, seniors and veterans.
Jr. Blues drop Home Opener 5-1
Dixon nets goal for Jr. Blues
On a night where the Jr. Blues celebrated their home opener, the Kenai River Brown Bears were the team walking about with 2 points. The Jr. Blues fell behind 1-0 a little over 3 minutes in to the game and never recovered. The Brown Bears would increase their lead to 5-0 before the Jr. Blues were able to find the back of the net.
Cody Dixon scored the lone goal off a faceoff win by Roy Grandov. Matt Leon stopped 37 of 42 shots in the game. The Jr. Blues inexperience showed early and often as they got into penalty trouble and were unable to gain any momentum throughout the night.
Jr. Blues Lose 2-0
#10 Nate Chasteen Jr. Blues give strong effort but come up short
The Jr. Blues were able to fire 52 shots on the Kenai River goalie Saturday night but that would prove to not be enough. The Jr. Blues outshot the Brown Bears 52-20 but fell 2-0. Brett Skibba had 7 shots on goal for the Jr. Blues while Mike Fazio had 8. The line of Skibba, Fazio and Nate Chasteen combined for 20 shots on goal.
"If we play like we played on Saturday night, we are going to win a lot of games," said Coach Zasowski after the game.
