The NBA's Philadelphia 76ers have announced their opening day roster and it includes former Stampede forward Josh Davis.
Davis, a 6'8, 240 lb. forward, posted 3.8 ppg, 2.8 rpg and 1.38 spg in eight games with the 76ers during their 2004-05 preseason. The 76ers finished the preseason 6-2 and will battle the Boston Celtics on Wednesday, November 3, at the Fleet Center to tip off their regular season.
The University of Wyoming standout played 40 games for the Stampede and was honored with three CBA postseason awards, the 2003-04 CBA Most Valuable Player, Newcomer of the Year and All-League First Team. Davis averaged 18.7 ppg, 9.6 rpg, dished out 96 assists and collected 58 steals during the Stampede's 2003-04 season. His 2003-04 season was also highlighted by receiving a CBA-to-NBA call up by the Atlanta Hawks on March 9, 2004. Also joining Davis on 2004-05 NBA opening day rosters are former Stampede players William "Smush" Parker (Detroit Pistons), Ira Newble (Cleveland Cavaliers), Rafer Alston (Toronto Raptors) and Damon Jones (Miami Heat).
Further proof that CBA and Stampede basketball is the stepping stone to the NBA and has athletes that are second to none.
