
Jonquel Jones Earns Kia WNBA Player of the Month

Uncasville, CT. - Jonquel Jones has been named Kia WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month for the month of August, the league announced today. The Connecticut Sun veteran, currently in her fifth season, has now received the honor three times in her career, including two for the 2021 season.
Jones and Connecticut went 7-0 for the month of August defeating Minnesota and Los Angeles twice and Dallas, Las Vegas and Washington each once. The Sun currently have a nine-game winning streak which is the team's longest win streak since 2006 when Connecticut won 12-straight.
Throughout the month of August, Jones averaged 18.7 points per game, 11 rebounds per game, 1.86 assists per game, and 1.14 steals per game and shot 51 percent from the field.
The month was highlighted by four double-double performances, including a 31-point and 14-rebound showing against the Washington Mystics on Tuesday, Aug. 31. The Sun defeated the Mystics 85-75 where Jones tied her career high in points and grabbed the 53rd double-double of her career.
In 22 games, the 6-6 forward is averaging a career-high 20.3 points per game, 11.0 rebounds per game, dishing out a career high 2.7 assists per game and shooting 53.1 percent from the field. She currently leads the league in rebounds per game and is third in points per game.
The Sun sit first in the league with a 21-6 overall record and a 13-1 record at home. On Tuesday, Aug. 24, the Sun defeated the Las Vegas Aces, 76-62 and clinched a spot in the playoffs for the fifth straight year. ¬â¹ Connecticut has five remaining regular season games which features a three-game road trip to Dallas (9/7), Los Angeles (9/9) and Phoenix (9/11) and two home games against New York (9/15) and Atlanta (9/15).
