Charlottetown - The Charlottetown Islanders are pleased to announce in association with the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League that forward Ross Johnston has been signed to a three-year NHL entry-level contract.

"It's been a pretty eventful year with highs and lows throughout it," said Johnston. "It's a dream come true of mine to sign an NHL contract, and I couldn't be more happy it's with the New York Islanders."

The 21-year-old attended the New York Islanders training camp in the preseason before returning to P.E.I. to play in his final QMJHL season.

In 44 games with the Islanders this season, the Charlottetown native recorded 18 goals and 14 assists for a career-high 32 points and was a +8 on the year.

In the final weekend of the regular season, he recorded 3 goals and 3 assists and was named the QMJHL first star of the week. Through the first three games of the 2015 playoffs, he has put up 4 assists and is a +2.

"We are really happy for Ross," said Charlottetown general manager Grant Sonier. "He has worked extremely hard to overcome a significant injury in camp. Since he's been back in the lineup, he has been a significant part of our hockey club's success."

Johnston will remain with Charlottetown through the remainder of the QMJHL playoffs.
