Lake County Captains News Release
(EASTLAKE, OH) - Minor League Baseball announced today that Captains outfielder Johnathan Rodriguez has been named the Midwest League Player of the Month for July.
The 22-year-old posted a slash line of .378/.420/.805 in 20 games played. He led the Midwest League in home runs with nine, runs batted in with 25, and an on-base plus slugging of 1.225. Rodriguez also ranked second in hits with 31 and doubles with eight.
For the month, the Puerto Rican born outfielder had nine multi-hit games and also had a homer in back-to-back games twice. Johnathan Rodriguez joined the Guardians organization after being drafted in the third round of the 2017 MLB Draft.
Earlier today, the Captains had a hitters meeting on the field in which the Lake County players congratulated Johnathan.
"Things just started to click" said Captains hitting coach Chris Smith. "Johnathan put in the hard work, with more preparation, looking at scouting reports on how to attack pitchers and good intent in the box in practice that has translated to the game."
Tonight Johnathan Rodriguez will bat cleanup against the Great Lakes Loons at Classic Park.
