Anderson Joes News Release
MACON, Ga. - On Tuesday, Anderson sent its hottest pitcher to the hill against a rookie making his first professional start for Macon.
And the Joes fell, 3-0.
Ronald Ball - who had allowed just five hits and struck out 14 batters in his previous 10 innings across two starts - lasted just 5.2 innings in taking his second loss of the season. Ball allowed four hits, five walks and three runs, two earned, while striking out six.
Macon starter Blake Rice took the win in his first professional start and just his second overall appearance of the year. Rice limited a Joes lineup that scored four runs in the first three innings in game one of the series to just two hits and no runs in his five innings pitched.
Anderson remained close in the game until a crucial error in the bottom of the fifth inning.
In a 1-0 game with the bases loaded for Macon (6-5, 36-20) and one out, K.J. Hendricks grounded a ball to second baseman Brandon Carter. Carter, attempting to initiate a potential inning-ending double play, threw the ball away from the covering Hector Borg at the bag and into left field.
Two runs scored on the play, giving the Music a 3-0 lead that would stand through the conclusion of the game, when Rudy Quinonez notched his third save of the season for Macon in the top of the ninth inning.
Kevin Noles, Tanner Rogers and Ball were the only Joes (5-8, 18-40) batters to muster hits in the loss.
The teams conclude their series Wednesday, with a solid scheduled pitching matchup.
The Joes will send staff ace Jan Granado (4-3) to the hill against Music No. 2 starter Ralph Roberts (4-1).
First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
