Iowa Chops News Release
DES MOINES, IA - Iowa Stars Director of Hockey Operations Scott White announced today that the Dallas Stars have recalled forward Joel Lundqvist from the Des Moines-based American Hockey League (AHL) club.
A native of Are, Sweden, Lundqvist is in his first professional season in North America. In 40 games with Iowa, the 24-year-old Lundqvist is currently leading the team with 38 points, including a team-high 22 assists: 40(16/22/38). Over the weekend, Joel represented the Iowa Stars in the RBK Hockey AHL All-Star Classic in Toronto, Ontario.
Selected by the Dallas Stars with their third selection in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, he made his NHL debut with Dallas on Dec. 4 vs. San Jose. On December 14th, while on recall with Dallas, Joel skated his way into NHL history. Joel, playing center for Dallas and his twin brother Henrik playing goal for the New York Rangers, became just the third set of twins in the 90-year history of the NHL to play on opposite teams in the same game. Lundqvist scored his first NHL goal on January 17th against Miikka Kiprusoff of the Calgary Flames.
