Springfield Cardinals News Release
The Springfield Cardinals will have a familiar face back on the roster on Wednesday, when they return to Hammons Field to open a six-game home stand.
Joe Mather, a member of the Springfield Cardinals 2007 club, will be in uniform on Wednesday, as the Cards open a three-game set against the San Antonio Missions.
Mather, who batted .303 with 18 home runs and 46 RBIs in 64 games for Springfield in 2007, went on to make his major league debut in 2008, appearing in 54 games with St. Louis, batting .241 with eight homers and 18 RBIs.
A left wrist injury forced him to have surgery in late-June of this year, which has cost him most of the season. Mather has appeared in just 39 games this year, all for Triple-A Memphis, where he was batting just .176 with one homer and 14 RBIs.
The Cards made a handful of roster moves on Tuesday, promoting LHP Tyler Norrick to Triple-A Memphis and putting OF Antone DeJesus on the Disabled List. Norrick went 3-1 with five saves and a 4.12 ERA in a team-high 52 games out of the Springfield bullpen.
Also added to the Springfield roster will be RHP Gary Daley, who will join the club from Quad Cities of the Midwest League. For the Quad Cities River Bandits, Daley was 4-3 with an ERA of 6.93 in 32 games.
Wednesday night is Star Wars Night at Hammons Field, as fans are invited to dress as their favorite Star Wars character and enjoy the theme night. Game time is 7:10pm and gates open at 6:10pm. The upcoming home stand also includes Friday Night Fireworks, St. John's Athletic Gray T-Shirt Giveaway on Saturday and Baseball Card Giveaway on Sunday, thanks to the Chevy Dealers of the Ozarks. Tickets are available by calling (417) 863-2143 or online at springfieldcardinals.com. We hope to see you at Hammons Field...Escape to Cardinals Baseball!
