Hounds Return To Citibank Ballpark in First Place

The RockHounds concluded their longest road trip of the season on Monday with a 3-0 loss in Tulsa, but held on to their three game lead in the South Division after a successful 7-3 record on the road.

Just 20 games remain in the 2009 Texas League season and the 'Hounds will host 13 of those right here at Citibank Ballpark starting on Wednesday night. After missing out on the playoffs by a tiebreaker rule at the end of the 2008 season and letting a five game lead slip away in the first half of the 2009 season, the Hounds have another opportunity to return to the Texas League playoffs in September. The RockHounds made the playoffs in 2006 and won the Texas League in 2005.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

RockHounds first baseman Chris Carter is making a serious run at Texas League MVP and the Texas League Triple Crown. This year's vote should come down to Carter and Corpus Christi Outfielder Andrew Locke, who currently leads the league in RBI.

Kyle Middleton hopes to continue his amazing start with the RockHounds after being signed out of Independent ball a month ago. Middleton has posted a 1.50 ERA and a 3-0 record in five starts. Kyle's emergence has proved to be an anchor in the RockHounds rotation and is a big reason for the 'Hounds rise to the top of the South Division Standings.

The newest RockHounds, Jemile Weeks (2008 1st round pick out of the Univ. of Miami, Fla) and relief pitcher Justin Friend will continue thier transition to Double-A baseball in the final weeks.
