Joe Jackson Night, August 4
July 31, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
Anderson Joes News Release
On August 4, the Anderson Joes will honor their namesake and one of the greatest baseball players of all time, Shoeless Joe Jackson, with Joe Jackson Night at Anderson Memorial Stadium.
The Joes will take on their in-state rival Aiken Foxhounds for the last time this season at 7:05, all the while celebrating Joe Jackson, his legacy and his link to the Anderson Joes.
The night's festivities and promotions include:
* "Joes for Joe." Any fan at Anderson Memorial Stadium who can show valid ID proving that his/her name is some derivative of "Joe" (Joe, Jo, Joey, Joseph, Josephine, etc.) will receive two vouchers for a future 2007 Joes home game. All the "Joes" will then go on the field after the game for a special "Joes for Joe" photograph that we will send to the office of the Commissioner.
* An informative display from Hall Yes! - a grassroots organization trying to get Shoeless Joe reinstated to Major League Baseball and induct Jackson in the Hall of Fame. For details, visit www.hallyes.com. Those who sign the Hall Yes! petition at the game will receive a free raffle ticket for great Joe Jackson prizes.
* An appearance by Joe Thompson, friend of Joe Jackson and author of the book, "Growing Up With Shoeless Joe." Mike Nola, Webmaster for the official Shoeless Joe Jackson Society Web site, says, "Unlike the other books on Joe Jackson, this one is written by someone that actually knew Joe and it shows in this great work." Thompson will be on-hand at Anderson Memorial, selling autographed copies of his book.
* The Joes will welcome descendants and members of the Jackson family as honored guests.
Plus, the game also features the final installment of the South Carolina rivalry matchup, the Palmetto Series presented by Fairchild Roofing, and postgame fireworks for all to enjoy.
Anderson has already given Joe Jackson one of the best tributes imaginable by naming their team after the all-time great. Now, the Joes want to get everyone involved August 4!
