Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Allentown, Pennsylvania - Despite a solo homer from Jhailyn Ortiz, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (25-26) offense could not get over the hump in a 4-1 loss to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (26-26) on Tuesday night at Coca-Cola Park.
The RailRiders got down to business straight away as the second batter of the game, Oswald Peraza, deposited solo homer into the seats in leftfield. With two outs, Andres Chaparro doubled before Kole Calhoun singled him home to extend the RailRiders lead to 2-0.
Carlos Narvaez singled to open the RailRiders and then moved to third on a Jamie Westbrook double. Jesus Bastidas followed with an RBI single and then Estevan Florial drove in another run with a sacrifice fly.
Ortiz ripped a solo homer, his fifth of the year, to open the scoring for the IronPigs in the bottom of the second, making it 4-1.
The IronPigs loaded the bases in the seventh and had the tying run at the plate with nobody out in the ninth, but failed to convert each time, going 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
Tanner Tully (5-1) secured the win for the RailRiders, going six innings and allowing just one run on four hits, striking out five. Greg Weissert (S, 5) converted the save for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, throwing a scoreless ninth, working around a walk and a hit by striking out two.
Michael Plassmeyer (1-4) suffered the loss for the IronPigs, allowing four runs in three innings on seven hits, striking out three.
The IronPigs and RailRiders meet again on Wednesday, May 31, for game two of their series. First pitch is slated for 6:45 p.m.
