Seattle Storm News Release
SEATTLE - Seattle Storm guard Jewell Loyd earned Associated Press WNBA First-Team honors and forward Jordan Horston received WNBA All-Rookie Team honors as the AP announced its WNBA end of the season awards today. The official WNBA awards will be announced later this month.
Loyd broke the WNBA's single-season scoring record, finishing with 939 points in 38 games. In addition, she netted WNBA Peak Performer honors for scoring with a 24.7 points per game average, the second-highest in WNBA history and the highest since 2014. Loyd also established WNBA records with 21 games scoring 25 or more points, 254 free throws made, and tied the records with 12 games scoring 30 or more points and with 287 free throws attempted. She also connected on a franchise record 115 three-pointers, 31 more than her previous record set last year, and the fourth-most in WNBA history.
Loyd became the Storm's all-time single-season scoring leader with 26 points in Chicago on Aug. 27, giving her 748 points and moving her past Breanna Stewart (742, 2018) at the top of the list. Loyd's record came in her 31st game while it took Stewart 34 games to post her total. She also established an All-Star Game record 31 points thanks to hitting a record 10 3-pt FGs (including one four-pointer) during the 2023 game in Las Vegas. Those 10 three-pointers give her 21 in her career, the most by any player in All-Star Game history.
Horston, the Storm's first-round pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft, had a solid rookie season, filling the stat sheet over the course of 36 games, making 17 starts on the season. She averaged 6.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.6 blocks, becoming one of 11 players in the WNBA to post those numbers or better this year (seven of whom played in the 2023 All-Star Game), and the only one in the group with to start fewer than 20 games. Those numbers also make her one of just 13 players in WNBA history to post those numbers or better through their first 36 career games, and only the seven since 2000.
Horston had nine games in double-digits this season including a season-high 23 points in Atlanta on July 12. She also had five games with 10 or more rebounds including a season-best 14 to go along with 13 points on June 13 at Phoenix for her first professional double-double.
