Stockton Ports News Release

LANCASTER, Calif. - The Lancaster JetHawks held the Stockton Ports to just a pair of solo homers on Friday night at The Hangar. In doing so, the JetHawks handed Stockton a 5-2 loss in the rubber game of a three-game series that opened a six-game road trip for the Ports.

The JetHawks broke the ice in the bottom of the first inning with three straight hits off Ports starter James Kaprielian. Kaprielian gave up back-to-back singles to Luis Castro and Sean Bouchard followed by a double to Ryan Vilade that gave Lancaster a 1-0 lead.

The Ports fired back in the top of the second with solo homers from Jonah Bride and Trace Loehr to take a 2-1 lead. Those would be the only two runs allowed by JetHawks starter Garrett Schilling (7-4), who earned the win after matching a season-high with seven innings worked, allowing six hits while striking out seven.

The JetHawks tied it in the bottom of the third. Matt Hearn reached on an infield single to open the inning and scored on a two-out check-swing single to right by Vialde to tie the game at 2-2. It was the last run allowed by Kaprielian, who did not factor into the decision after working a season-high four innings and allowing six hits while walking one and striking out a season-best seven.

Will Gilbert (3-1) took over for Kaprielian in the fifth and gave up three-straight hits with one out, a double to Matt McLaughlin followed by an RBI single to Luis Castro to give Lancaster a 3-2 lead. After a single by Bouchard put runners at the corners, Vilade supplied a sac-fly to right field that made it 4-2.

Gilbert suffered the loss, going two innings and allowing two runs on three hits while striking out four.

Peter Bayer took over for the Ports in the seventh and worked the final two innings, allowing a solo home run to Casey Golden in the eighth to make it 5-2.

Austin Moore worked a scoreless eighth for Lancaster while Tommy Doyle (SV, 15) notched his league-leading 15th save of the season by setting the side down in order in the ninth.

The Ports continue their road trip on Saturday night when they open a three-game series with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes at Loan Mart Field. Left-hander Sean Manaea starts the game for the Ports on a Major League rehab assignment, opposed by Quakes right-hander Andre Jackson. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PDT.
