Jeremy Williams Called up by Rangers

Connecticut Whale News Release

The New York Rangers called up Wolf Pack right wing Jeremy Williams as a possible replacement for Brandon Prust in Sunday night's game against the New Jersey Devils.

Prust was cut above the right eye on a high-stick during the Rangers' 3-2 victory over the Boston Bruins on Saturday night. He was taken to a nearby hospital to have his pupil examined for any damage. He checked out OK and returned to New York on Sunday morning.

Prust played against the Devils, but so did Williams, who made his Rangers debut in place of Todd White and was on a line with Brian Boyle and Derek Boogaard. On his first shift midway through the first period, Williams drew a penalty on Jason Arnott.

The 26-year-old Williams scored his team-leading fourth goal on a diving conversion of Ryan Garlock's centering pass in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Syracuse Crunch on Saturday night. Williams, signed to a free-agent deal by the Rangers on July 12, last played in the NHL for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2009-09, when he had five goals and two assists in 11 games. He has nine goals and two assists in 31 NHL games with the Maple Leafs.

Williams, a seventh-year pro, has four goals and two assists in eight games for the Wolf Pack (3-3-1-1), who have lost four in a row at home heading into Wednesday night's game against the Albany Devils.
