Jax Add Young Canadian Prospect
October 19, 2006 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Portland Lumberjax News Release
PORTLAND, Oct. 19, 2006 - The Portland LumberJax added another player to their roster for the upcoming 2007 campaign by signing Simon Robillard today. Simon will enter his first season in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) after coming off a successful 2006 summer campaign with the Ottawa Titans Jr. 'A' Canadian team.
As a captain, the Ottawa, Ontario native finished the season with 22 goals and 38 assists for 60 points before his team fell to the Whitby Warriors during the playoffs. For his leadership and skills on the floor, Robillard was named Most Valuable Player during the regular season by the Titans organization. He also received honors for Top Scorer during the playoffs with 11 points (two goals, nine assists) and the Graduating Player award. During his 2005 campaign with the club, he averaged 28 looseballs per game and collected a total of 24 points on 11 goals and 13 assists through 22 games.
"We were very surprised that Simon was not drafted by one of the Eastern Division teams," said Head Coach and General Manager Derek Keenan. "Assistant Coach Jeff McComb is very familiar with his abilities, because he coached against Simon's club for the past two summers. We are going to give Simon an opportunity to be a defensive transition player with the LumberJax and to come in and further enhance our up-tempo style of play."
Robillard, a 5-foot, 10-inch, 175-pound transition player, previously competed with the Gloucester Griffins for three years totaling 70 goals and 66 assists for 136 points in 65 games. Known for his speed and drive on the floor, Robillard's career statistics in 120 games speak for themselves; he has scored 104 goals and 118 assists for 222 points.
The Jax have now signed Adam Bysouth, Rich Morgan, Ray Guze, Mike Hominuck, Ryder Bateman, Jed Prossner and D.J. Driscoll while receiving rights to Scott Stapleford and Tyler Heavenor. Dallas Eliuk, Pat Jones, Brodie Merrill, Peter Morgan and Ryan Powell are entering the second season of their individual two-year contracts. The LumberJax training camp takes place in mid-November in Vancouver, B.C where all returning players and new signees will compete for a position on the Jax roster for the upcoming 2007 season.
