Arizona Sting News Release

GLENDALE, AZ --- Arizona Sting Head Coach and General Manager Bob Hamley announced Thursday that goaltender Brandon Atherton, the Sting's second pick at last month's NLL Entry Draft, has been signed to a one-year contract. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Brandon is a talented young goaltender that we're pleased to be adding to our roster," said Hamley. "He put up some good numbers at the junior level while facing a lot of shots, and we're confident that he'll develop into a quality goalie in the pros."

Atherton played for the Victoria Shamrocks of the British Columbia Junior Lacrosse Association this past summer. The 21-year old registered a G.A.A. of 10.88 and a save percentage of 78.55 in 20 regular season games prior to tallying a G.A.A. of 8.25 and a save percentage of 83.38 in the'06 playoffs. In 2005, Atherton was a member of the Nanaimo Timbermen. The 6'1", 180lb. net minder finished the '05 campaign with a G.A.A. of 14.03 and a SV % of 78.26 on a team that went 0-21 to finish in last place in the BCJLA. Atherton faced 1279 shots that season, 518 more than anyone else in the league.

Arizona took Atherton with the 23rd overall selection at last month's entry draft after acquiring the pick from the Minnesota Swarm in exchange for a second-round selection at next year's draft.

Coach Hamley also announced Thursday that he had made a deal with Chicago that will send hold-out forward Kevin Leveille to the Shamrox in exchange for a conditional draft pick at the 2008 NLL Entry Draft.

The Arizona Sting is a professional indoor lacrosse team playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). Their home games are played at the Glendale Arena and their season runs annually from January-April. For more information, please visit www.ArizonaSting.com.
