Roanoke Valley Vipers News Release
ROANOKE, VA - The Roanoke Valley Vipers, member of the United Hockey League (UHL), looked solid on the ice at the Roanoke Civic Center Wednesday night as they took a 5-1 win over the Elmira Jackals.
It appeared as though the Jackals had taken control of the match early as Jarrett Konkle was awarded and made a penalty shot just 59 seconds into play. The Vipers, however, quickly turned things back to their favor, as Mark Scott scored on a power play off assists from David Beauregard and Alex Jerofejevs at 6:10 in the first period. Petr Jelinek gave the Vipers the lead on another power play goal at 14:25 off a pass from Beauregard. The Vipers would not surrender this lead for the duration of play.
With a 2-1 advantage going into the second period, Jan Jas increased the margin between the Vipers and the Jackals with the help of a pass off the stick of Jerofejevs. Jas, assisted by D-man Brano Kvetan, scored again on a power play just one minute and 25 seconds into the third period. Beauregard made it a 5-1 game with an even strength goal at 15:36 of the third, as Jerofejevs put his third helper of the night on the scoreboard. Beauregard's linemate and scoring partner Mark Scott was also awarded an assist on the goal.
The Jackals fought hard, racking up 69 penalty minutes, including three major penalties, a 10-minute misconduct, and a game-misconduct, but the Vipers fought harder offensively to come out on top, as they lifted their record back above the .500 mark at 4-3-0 with eight points in the UHL standings. The Jackals fall to 2-7-0 with the loss. Perry Florio and his team will return to Roanoke on Sunday, November 13th at 5:05p.m. The division-leading Adirondack Frostbite will make their first trip to the Valley on Friday and Saturday, November 11th and 12th as the Vipers look to build on their two-game winning streak.
