Portland Winterhawks News Release

The Portland Winterhawks are pleased to announce that alternate captain Jared Freadrich has signed an ECHL contract with the Orlando Solar Bears for the remainder of the 2018-19 season. He will join former Winterhawks alumnus Alex Schoenborn (2012-16) on the playoff-bound team in Florida.

Freadrich recently finished his Western Hockey League career in Portland, setting new career-highs with 15 goals, 33 assists and 48 points in 67 regular season games. He led all Hawks defenseman in the postseason with five points in five playoff games.

In March, the Camrose, Alberta native was given the annual team award for Sportsmanship and Ability. The Winterhawks acquired Freadrich last summer to provide an offensive, veteran presence on the blue line and he did not disappoint. Freadrich quarterbacked the top power play line in Portland and helped lead the Hawks to the third best power play percentage in the Western Conference, all while representing the Hawks as an alternate captain.

Prior to his time with the Winterhawks, Freadrich played for the Regina Pats, Red Deer Rebels and Victoria Royals. He appeared in 263 regular season games in his WHL career, scoring 38 goals and 93 assists for 131 points. In 35 playoff games, he added two goals and 16 assists.

The Orlando Solar Bears have three games remaining in the regular season before the team begins its quest for the ECHL's Kelly Cup Championship. Orlando is currently third place in the Eastern Conference.
