Bakersfield Jam News Release

BAKERSFIELD, January 9, 2013 - The Bakersfield Jam (11-7) used a strong fourth quarter run to erase a double digit deficit but it wasn't enough and loss to the Maine Red Claws (11-8) by a final score of 131-124.

Both teams were on fire in the first half as they each shot 52% from the field, combining for 137 first half points (69-68). Maine continued their hot shooting in the third period and extended their one point lead at halftime into as many as 15, outscoring Bakersfield 33-25 in the quarter. The Jam continued to trail in the final period and saw themselves behind double-digits (122-107) with 5:30 left in the game, but a Damion James three-pointer ignited a 13-2 run late in the game to put them within four points (124-120). However, down four with 1:09 remaining in the game, Maine answered back with a bucket and free-throws to close out the game and snapped Bakersfield's three-game winning streak.

Jerel McNeal shined for Bakersfield as he posted a team-high 27 points, seven assists, five rebounds and five steals. James finished with 26 points and seven rebounds while Brian Butch recorded a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds. Renaldo Major tallied 17 points.

For Maine, DaJuan Summers led the way with a game-high 29 points and eight rebounds. Micah Downs scored 26 points, Shelvin Mack tallied 24 points and seven assists and Chamberlain Oguchi had 20 points.

Bakersfield will travel back home and face their southbound rivals, the Los Angeles D-Fenders, on Friday, January 11 at 7 pm PT.
