
Jammers to send six representatives, coaching staff to NYPL All-Star Game

August 13, 2008- The 2008 New York-Penn League All-Star Game will feature a Jamestown flavor as the Jammers coaching staff and league-high six players represent the Jammers as part of the National League affiliate team.
Catcher Miguel Fermin, the New York-Penn League leader in batting average (.371), slugging percentage (.660) and home runs (11) leads the Jammers representatives in the fourth annual NYPL All-Star Game to be held Aug. 19 in Troy, N.Y. Fermin also represents the Jammers in the annual Home Run Derby, to be held prior to the start of the game between the National League and American League affiliates. Infielder Paul Gran, the seventh round selection of the Florida Marlins in the 2008 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft, continues his stellar season as a member of the NYPL National League Affiliates team as well. Gran is among the league leaders in hits (62, tie first); doubles (14, tie second); runs scored (38, second); batting average (.333, fifth) and on-base percentage (.397, fifth). Infielder Ben Lasater (.328, five home runs, 32 runs batted in), a 29th round pick of the Marlins in the 2007 Draft; and second baseman Brandon Turner (.321, two home runs, 18 RBI), the 12th round selection of the Marlins in the 2008 Draft, round out the position player selections for the Jammers.
The National League pitching staff also has two Jammers representatives; left-handed starter Dan Jennings, the ninth round selection in this year's draft by the Marlins, who earns the honor after going 1-1 with a 2.95 ERA in 39 2/3 innings this season for Jamestown. Left-handed reliever Wade Korpi rounds out the Jammers All-Star selections. The Notre Dame product has posted a team-high five wins and a 1.91 ERA in 33 innings of action in the 2008 NYPL season, striking out 39 while walking 12.
The National League affiliate team heads into action led by the Jammers coaching staff, manager Darin Everson, hitting coach Johnny Rodriguez, pitching coach Charlie Corbell and head athletic trainer Patrick Amorelli. The coaching staff earns the honor after guiding the Jammers to a league-best 33-19 record through the first half of the season.
The 2008 New York-Penn League All-Star Break begins Aug. 18 as all league-member teams take a three-day break from competition. The Home Run Derby is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Aug. 19 with the game following at 7:15. The Jammers return to play Aug. 21 at State College before returning home to Diethrick Park Tuesday, Aug. 26 for a doubleheader against State College beginning at 5:05 p.m.
