Jamestown Jammers News Release
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The entire team got in on the act Saturday night as the Jamestown Jammers dismantled the Staten Island Yankees, 15-1, at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.
Every starter for the Jammers had at least one hit and scored a run, and eight of the nine drove in a run for an offense that pounded out 15 hits. On the mound, Jose Urena pitched seven shutout innings to earn his fourth win of the season. The victory keeps Jamestown tied with Mahoning Valley atop the Pinckney Division at 24-18.
Jamestown got on the board in the top of the second as Brian McConkey and Kentrell Dewitt both drilled solo home runs to right field.
Staten Island had a chance to get back into the game in the fourth with runners at first and second and only one out; however, Cody Grice grounded into a double play to end the threat.
After the Yankees failed to capitalize, the Jammers broke the game open in the fifth due to Staten Island miscues and timely hitting. Viosergy Rosa belted a RBI double to center to start the scoring then Ryan Goetz, Terrence Dayleg and Josh Adams all had run-scoring singles after Bryan Mitchell put two runners in scoring position on wild pitches.
In the sixth, the Jammers matched their season high for runs in an inning with seven as they sent 11 men to the plate. A fielding error, a two-run single by Austin Barnes, a pair of bases loaded walks by Adams and McConkey, a wild pitch and a Jobduan Morales ground out accounted for the offense in the frame.
Another error by the Yankees helped tack on two Jamestown runs in the eighth. After McConkey drilled a ground-rule double, Dewitt reached on a fielding error that allowed McConkey to score. Then, Rosa connected for a RBI single to cap the Jamestown offense.
Staten Island scored a meaningless run in the bottom of the ninth to snap an 18 inning scoreless streak by Jamestown pitchers.
Dewitt paced the offense with two hits, including the homer, a RBI and four runs. Barnes and Rosa both had a single and a double with two RBI, while McConkey connected for a double and homer. Goetz added two hits with a two bagger, and Dayleg smacked two singles. The same two teams will face off at 4 p.m. Sunday in Staten Island.
