Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release
NORWICH, CT - The Connecticut Tigers are proud to announce that Detroit Tigers third-round pick in this year's draft, first baseman Aaron Westlake, will be joining the team and be active for tonight's game against the Batavia Muckdogs.
Westlake began his professional career last week with the Gulf Coast League Tigers and in five games was 3-for-18 with a double, home run and four RBI's.
He is one of the most highly touted prospects to come through Connecticut and will be a welcomed addition to the middle of the Tigers order.
The Redding, California native smashed three homers in one game during this year's Super Regional's, which helped lead the Vanderbilt Commodores to their first College World Series appearance.
As a Freshman he was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American and ABCA/Rawlings All-South Region Second Team honors after hitting .377 with 10 home runs, 57 RBI's and 53 runs scored in 63 games.
Westlake hit .308 with 14 home runs, 16 doubles and 61 RBI's as a Sophomore and this year hit .344 with 18 home runs, 18 doubles and 56 RBI's as a Junior, before entering the draft.
He was taken in the third round, 106th overall in last month's draft.
