JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - The Jamestown Jammers capitalized on a pair of Tri-City miscues en route to a win, 6-3, Wednesday at Diethrick Park.

Pedro Mendoza paced the offense with three hits and a run scored. Nestor Castillo added a pair of singles and scored two runs, while Goetz and Adams both ripped doubles. Mahoning Valley also won, which keeps the Jammers (26-20) a game back of first place.

The Jammers got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after capitalizing on a Tri- City error. Mendoza had a one-out single then went to third on a failed force attempt when the shortstop Jacke Healy threw the ball away. Then, Josh Adams hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Mendoza.

In the fourth inning, the ValleyCats briefly captured the lead thanks to a hit by pitch and three hits; however, it was another short-lived advantage as the Jammers scored three in the bottom of the fourth.

Adams started the frame with a double. Then, Tri-City starter Kyle Hallock induced a pop out and fanned Jobduan Morales, but the Jamestown first baseman reached when the ball got past the catcher. Nestor Castillo singled in Adams, and Cooper walked to fill the bases before Goetz roped a double just inside the first-base line to plate two more runs.

The sixth inning saw Jamestown put up a pair of insurances runs. Nestor Castillo reached on an infield single before Cooper crushed a 1-2 offering from reliever Travis Smink over the left field fence for his second two-run homer in as many nights.

Tri-City got a run back in the eighth inning on a Matthew Duffy double, but the ValleyCats best chance to tie came in the ninth inning. A pair of ValleyCats reached on errors to put runners at the corners; however, Alfredo Buret induced a 5-4-3 double play to escape the jam and earn his eighth save of the season.

Josh Hodges improved to 5-0 after going five innings, giving up seven hits and striking out three, while Hallock took the loss for Tri-City. The lefty went four innings and surrendered four unearned runs with four strikeouts and two walks.

Zach Johnson paced the Tri-City offense with two hits including a double, and Justin Gominsky chipped in two singles.

The Jammers will go for the sweep Thursday at Diethrick Park at 7:05 p.m.
