BAKERSFIELD - The Bakersfield Jam (11-8) defeated the visiting Austin Toros (14-4) by a score of 102-100 Friday night. Bakersfield led by as many as 24 points in the game.
The Jam shot 63.6% from the field compared to the Toros' 32.0% en route to a 35-20 lead at the end of the first period. Bakersfield continued their high percentage shooting and built a 24 point lead on an Adrian Thomas three pointer with 2:28 left in the second quarter. They led 65-47 at the half but Austin would not surrender. The Toros outscored the Jam 29-13 in the third to cut Bakersfield's lead down to 2 (78-76) entering the fourth period. With a 102-97 Bakersfield lead with 1:29 left in the game, Da'Sean Butler connected on a jump shot to bring the game within three points. Couple possessions later, Lance Thomas was put on the free throw line, only making one, to bring the final score to 102-100.
Renaldo Major led the offense this evening with 18 points. Jeremy Wise tied his season-high in points with 17 and dished out 7 assists. Juan Pattillo was a huge spark off the bench for the Jam scoring 15 points and grabbing 7 rebounds, as well as Mustapha Farrakhan with 12 points. Adrian Thomas added 12 points (all in the first half).
Three Austin players recorded a double-double tonight, including Leo Lyons with 17 points and 13 rebounds off the bench, Lance Thomas with 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Eric Dawson with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Justin Dentmon led the Toros in scoring with 21 points and tallied 7 assists. Da'Sean Butler contributed 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists off the bench.
The Jam return to action tomorrow night as the Sioux Falls Skyforce come to Bakersfield for a 7 p.m. PT game.
