Maywood Laguneros News Release

Long Beach, CA. Steve Chase, President/GM of the ABA Long Beach Jam today announced the signing of three top players to the defending ABA Championship team that begins play next week.

Guard/Forward Felipe Lopez is the first person ever from the Dominican Republic to be drafted by the NBA. He averaged 16.9 points per game in four years at St. John's aind finished his career ranked third on the Red Storm's all-time scoring list with 1927 points trailing only NBA players Chris Mullin and Malik Sealy. He is sixth in the Big East Conference scoring with 1222 conference points. He left the Red Storm for the NBA ranked seventh in steals, 14th in assists, 20th in rebounds and holds the school record for most three-pointers made in a single season (60) and in a career (148). In his NBA career (1998-2002), Lopez averaged 5.8 points per game and played with Vancouver, Washington and Minnesota.

Lenny Cooke, Guard, is a super athlete especially talented at taking the ball to the basket. He is a good ball handler with great scoring ability and led the Adidas ABCD camp in scoring and rebounding as a high school junior.

Conference USA Tournament MVP Tony Bobbitt, Guard, just missed making the LA Lakers roster and had an impressive preseason with them. In his final two games, Bobbitt scored nine points against Phoenix and 14 against Seattle. He led the 2004 University of Cincinnati to the Conference USA Championship.

Bobbitt, Lopez and Cooke and the rest of the Long Beach Jam teammates will take part in an exhibition game this Saturday at 7PM at Millikan High School at 2800 Snowden Avenue, Lakewood CA. Admission to the game is ONE DOLLAR and all proceeds will go to the Long Beach Chapter of National Junior Basketball. This is a great chance to see a great team in action and do something very worthwhile too.
