Long Beach Jam withdraw from ABA
June 9, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Maywood Laguneros News Release
The Long Beach Jam announced today that they have withdrawn from the American Basketball Association. Team owner Tet Yamashita said,
"After careful consideration we have decided that the ABA has a business plan that we consider impossible to allow success in our market. The lack of stability for the past four years and lack of structure in the ABA has caused us to seek admission in another basketball league. We wish the ABA well and are very proud of our championship we won in the 2003-04 season. It is important to understand that the Long Beach Jam is in no way affiliated with the new team announced today by the ABA."
The Long Beach Jam has applied for admission to the National Basketball Developmental League for the 2006-07 season. The NBDL is affiliated with the National Basketball Association. The NBDL has added 5 new teams for the 2005-06 season and will continue expansion, that should include California for the 2006-07 season. These new teams moves the base of teams in the NBDL from the Southeastern part of the US to the Mid-West and beyond with new teams in Texas Oklahoma, Arkansas and New Mexico.
Mr. Yamashita, CEO of Plan-net Sports, parent organization of the Long Beach Jam said, "Our goal is to be a farm team for several NBA teams as a member of the NBDL. We think this association will provide our fans with the best basketball product and the stability of the NBA will insure a bright future for the Long Beach Jam. NBA TV will allow our sponsors an opportunity for worldwide exposure."
Steve Chase, President of Plan-net Sports states: "We are looking forward to beginning our operations with a new league in the next 60 to 90 days. Our first game is 18 months away, but we will be very busy during this period to insure the success of the Long Beach Jam. We have always been know as one of the most respected and outstanding organizations in professional basketball. We are anxious to continue to bring top quality professional basketball at affordable prices to Long Beach and Southern California".

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
