Jam Fall to Stampede

Bakersfield Jam News Release

(Bakersfield, CA) - It was a tale of two halves in Bakersfield, where the Jam dropped to 0-9 with a 117-103 loss to the Idaho Stampede.

The Jam played arguably their best 24 minutes of basketball this season in a first half that saw them grab a 56-49 lead heading into intermission. Newcomer James "Boo" Jackson, who signed with the team only hours before the game, notched a first-half double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds in an impressive 21 minutes.

Bakersfield also managed to keep a lid on Stampede standout Sundiata Gaines over the first two quarters. As counterpart Reece Gaines of the Jam tallied 14 first-half points on 6-for-8 shooting, the usually prolific Idaho star managed only four points on 1-for-7 shooting.

The second half, however, was a very different story. Gaines came out of the break determined to get his offense on track and poured in 17 third-quarter points thanks to perfect 8-for-8 shooting, while somehow managing to dish out four assists and grab three rebounds in the period as well.

Gaines' impressive play continued into the fourth quarter, as he helped the Stampede stretch an 85-78 third-quarter advantage to a 14-point lead by the final whistle. He finished one rebound away from a triple-double, with 31 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds.

Milton Ambres also shone for the Stampede, finishing with 23 points on 9-for-16 shooting to go with six rebounds and two steals. Lanny Smith gave Idaho some much-needed bench production, contributing 15 points and eight assists.

Reserve guard Jeremy Wise led the Jam with 25 points on 9-for-14 shooting, while Jackson finished with 21 points and 12 rebounds in his maiden voyage for Bakersfield. Reece Gaines also played well, scoring 24 to go with four assists and five rebounds, but it was not enough for a Jam squad that now sits as the only winless team in the NBA D-League.

The Stampede and Jam will play the second game of their back-to-back set on Saturday, December 19 at the Jam Events Center.
