T-Birds Lose to Toros 106 - 99

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - The Albuquerque Thunderbirds dropped their sixth consecutive game on Friday night, falling 106 - 99 to the Austin Toros. Keith McLeod led the way for Albuquerque with 22 points and 10 assists.

McLeod paced the Thunderbirds with 18 first half points, and the team held the Toros to 39.0% shooting in the half. Albuquerque led 41 - 31 late in the second, but the Toros used a 9 - 0 run to close the gap to 46 - 43 at the break.

The Toros outscored Albuquerque 31 - 26 in the third to take a two point lead heading into the final period. Albuquerque tied it up at 93 apiece with 3:30 to play, but the team was unable to regain the lead in the waning minutes. Austin led 102 - 99 with 51.5 seconds to play after two free throws from Shane Edwards, but the Toros made their free throws down the stretch to pull away for the seven point victory.

Curtis Jerrells again led Austin with 26 points. Alonzo Gee added 25 points, and Dwayne Jones had another double-double, with 13 points and 24 rebounds.

Carlos Powell added 18 points for the Thunderbirds, and former University of New Mexico standouts Tony Danridge (14) and Chad Toppert (12) both scored in double figures. Shane Edwards scored 13 in his Thunderbirds debut.

Toros head coach Quin Snyder was ejected with 6:30 to play in the second quarter after receiving his second technical foul.

The Thunderbirds will take on the Los Angeles D-Fenders at the Toyota Center in Los Angeles on Dec. 27. The game will start at 6:00 pm MT, and fans can either listen in on 96.3 KBZU or watch the game live on NBA Futurecast.
