Jacksonville Slam News Release

The Jacksonville Jam (18-6) defeated the Orlando Aces (4-14) to earn its 18th win of the season thus far. The Jam are 5-1 vs. the Aces for the season, and controlled the action from the opening tip to get a decisive victory over the Aces on Friday night at UNF arena. The Jam came out fast and furious from the opening tip to take a 6-2 lead. Trey Moore and Nick Wallery scored early baskets to put the Jam out in front. The Jam led by as many as ten points in the first period and was up 31-22 at the end of the first quarter of play.

In the second quarter DeRon Rutledge and Wallery controlled the inside and the Aces had no answers for the bookend power forwards as they dominated play. Jacksonville extended its lead to twenty points with 4:30 to play in the first half and went in up by 18 points at half-time 64-46. In the second half Rutledge, Moore, Wallery, Anthony Lumpkin, and newcomer, Johnny Tyson set the pace for the Jam, as Jacksonville maintained complete control of the game. The Jam led by as many as 22 points in the second half of play and fought off several Orlando runs to control the tempo of the game.

Tyson especially gave the Jam an inside presence that the Jam have lacked all season long. Tyson only scored 1 point in his first game for the Jam, but he pulled down 10 rebounds, blocked 2 shots, and altered several more shots in the painted lane area in 16 minutes of play. Tyson was plagued by foul trouble in the first appearance in a Jam uniform.

"I've coached JT for a long time, and I know what he is going to give us on a consistent basis! His presence will be very valuable to us the rest of the season. " states Jam head coach, Steve Tucker.

Jacksonville was led in scoring by Rutledge, who scored 23 points. Moore added 19 points, 10 assist, and 5 rebounds in another stellar performance for the Jam! Wallery and Lumpkin each chipped in 16 points respectively. Aces guard, Alex Hill led Orlando with 32 points. Antonio Lawrence followed up with a 31 points and a 20 rebound performance.

The Jam will meet the Aces again next Thursday night in Orlando, FL. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm. Jacksonville returns back home next Friday night with another classic match up vs. the Miami Tropics. Tip-off at UNF Arena will be at 7:00pm.
