California Eagles News Release
(STOCKTON, CALIF., JANUARY 27, 2007) - The California Cougars announced today that the team has relieved Troy Dayak of his coaching duties effective immediately.
Dayak has led the Cougars since the team's inaugural season and was instrumental in the player personnel make up of the current Cougars roster. Dayak's Cougars finished 10-20 in the club's first season and was currently 5-13 before tonight's contest against the Milwaukee Wave.
Dayak, a Tracy, Calif. native and local soccer hero, was a member of a 1992 Olympic soccer team that played in Barcelona, Spain and was a two-time MLS champion with the San Jose Earthquake in 2001 and 2003.
The team will be coached in the interim by current Cougars veteran forward Bernie Lilavois. Lilavois, a 13-year veteran of the indoor sport, was one of the first players brought onto the Cougars inaugural roster in 2005.
