BAKERSFIELD - The Bakersfield Jam (23-17) shot lights out and defeated the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (22-20) by a final score of 134-110. Derrick Byars led the Jam with 33 points on 10-of-15 shooting, knocking down six of his eight three-pointers.

The Jam were down 31-29 at the end of the first period, but exploded in the second quarter outscoring the Vipers 37-22 to take a 13 point lead at halftime (66-53). In that second quarter, the Jam had nine assists as a team and shot 11-of-19 from the field (57.9%). The momentum built in the second quarter carried over as the Bakersfield Jam never trailed for the rest of the game, increasing their lead by as many as 29 points. The Jam ended the night with 35 assists as a team and shot 59.5% (44-74) from the field. Brian Butch recorded the only double-double of the game with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Renaldo Major had 18 points and Juan Pattillo added 18 points as well to go along with eight rebounds. In his return to the Jam, Trey Johnson scored 16 points and dished out 5 assists off the bench.

Jermaine Taylor and Will Conroy led the Vipers in scoring with 17 points each. Marshall Brown added 14 points while Scott VanderMeer and Kelvin Lewis contributed 11 points each off the bench.

Bakersfield will face Rio Grande Valley again tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. P.T. at the Jam Events Center.
