Jacksonville Slam News Release

The Jacksonville Jam (24-8) exploded on their homecourt at UNF arena on Friday night to win in dominating fashion over the Atlanta Vision (10-15). The Jam started fast, led by forward Jerry Williams. Williams scored 10 points in the opening period to lead Jacksonville to a big first quarter lead. Jam point guard, Anthony Lumpkin and off guard, Bobby St. Preux. also scored early and often to follow up on Williams dynamic performance. The Jam led after one period of play 38-21.

In the second quarter, things just got worse for the Vision as the Jam built up a 47 point lead with 3:30 to play in the quarter. The Jam bench led by veteran power forward, DeRon Rutledge led the way for Jacksonville, as the Jam scored 48 points in the second period of play. The Jam scored an amazing 86 points in the first half to go in up decisively at half-time 86-49.

Jacksonville came out slowly in the third quarter as Atlanta cut into the lead and cut the lead to 24 points at the midway point of the third quarter. But once again, the Jam bench came through in a big way as guard, Anthony Hatcher and forward, Antonio Lawrence created stops and steals for the Jam defense. The Jam led 109-80 heading into the last period of play. In the fourth quarter, the Jam regained its stride and Jacksonville took advantage of Atlanta's pressing full court defense by attacking the basket, which resulted into many easy transition baskets for the Jam. Jacksonville once again built its lead back up to nearly 40 points as the Jam closed out the game with a spurt and won going away 141-105.

Jacksonville was led once again by Williams, who scored 29 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. Jam power forward, Nick Wallery had his best night in a Jam uniform with 20 points and 19 rebounds on the evening. Jacksonville finished the game with six players scoring in double figures. Rutledge, Hatcher, St. Preux, and Ray Rose chipped in 18, 15, 13, and 13 points respectively. Former Jam player, Lorenzo Lawrence led Atlanta in scoring with 24 points. The Jacksonville Jam return to action this Sunday afternoon at home in the UNF Arena as they host the Palm Beach Imperials. Tip off will be at 3:05pm.
