Jam Announce 2011-12 Season Affiliates
July 7, 2011 - NBA G League (G League)
Bakersfield Jam News Release
BAKERSFIELD, July 7, 2011 - The Bakersfield Jam will affiliate with the Los Angeles Clippers, Phoenix Suns, and Toronto Raptors for the 2011-12 NBA Development League season, the team announced today.
For the seventh consecutive year, each NBA team has one NBA D-League team to which it may assign players. During the 2010-11 season, the NBA D-League saw all-time highs in NBA player assignments (56), individual players assigned (39) and NBA teams assigning a player (25), while last season marked the first time every NBA D-League team was assigned an NBA player.
The Jam will enter the third year of their affiliation relationship with the Los Angeles Clippers. "The NBA D-League is a valuable resource in the development of our young players and we are pleased to continue our association with Stan Ellis, David Higdon and the entire Bakersfield Jam organization," said Neil Olshey, Los Angeles Clippers Vice President of Basketball Operations. The 2011-12 season will mark the first year of Bakersfield's affiliation with the Phoenix Suns. "We are pleased to announce our new affiliation with the Bakersfield Jam," said Phoenix Suns Director of Player Personnel John Treloar. "In addition to being an established, first-class Development League organization, Bakersfield's proximity to Phoenix will give us increased flexibility and opportunity to take advantage of all the NBA D-League has to offer." This will also be the first season of Bakersfield Jam and Toronto Raptors affiliation. "The D League has been a great resource for our organization and we look forward to establishing a solid working relationship with the ownership and management in Bakersfield," said Toronto Raptors President and General Manager, Bryan Colangelo.
"We are looking forward to continuing our relationship with the Clippers and we are excited to begin new partnerships with the Suns and Raptors," added Bakersfield Jam Head Coach, Will Voigt. "We had 3 NBA players assigned to us last season, and we want to continue to be a place where young NBA players can come to improve and gain valuable experience."
The NBA D-League will again have 16 teams playing in 2011-12. The NBA D-League continues to be a launching pad for NBA talent - 23 percent of all NBA players on 2010-11 end-of-season rosters have played in the NBA D-League, while 27 of the 60 players selected in the 2010 NBA Draft played in the NBA D-League last season.
