Tri-City Storm News Release

Kearney, Neb. - Goalie Jake Kielly made 32 saves for his second postseason shutout and became the first Storm goalie to record multiple postseason shutouts in the Tri-City Storm's 4-0 victory over the Waterloo Black Hawks in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals Friday at the Viaero Center.

The Storm scored two goals on its first five shots, but Kielly starred the night, making 15 saves in the first to put Tri-City in a position to seize the lead.

Kielly's blanking is the Storm's fourth postseason shutout (Peter Mannino - 2004, Mike Zaccharias - 2005).

Carson Meyer scored the game-winning goal halfway through the first on the power play, while the Storm's penalty kill moved to 16-for-16 in the postseason by holding Waterloo 0-for-3. Nico Sturm, Dan Labosky and Walker Duehr also scored.

Through the first four games of the playoffs, all wins by Tri-City, the Storm has scored four goals in each game and allowed three total goals. Kielly has a 0.75 goals against average and a .972 save percentage.

After allowing the first seven shots, Carson Meyer scored on Tri-City's first shot, a tic-tac-toe power-play marker at 9:26. Mattias Goransson held the zone at the right point and tossed to Wahlin at the left circle. With Meyer cutting, Wahlin dished to the right crease and it nicked off the leading scorer's stick and in.

The 18-year-old Meyer has three goals and five points this postseason. During the regular season, the native of Powell, Ohio scored 32 goals.

With 4:34 left in the first at 5-on-5, Nico Sturm bombed a slap shot for his third postseason goal, assisted by Brandon Duhaime and Tory Dello. After accumulating ten points in 50 regular-season games, Dello has one goal and three points in the Clark Cup Playoffs.

Sturm, a first-year center from Augsburg, Germany, had 14 goals and 39 points in the regular season.

Kielly remained the constant in the first, helping the Storm kill off a Waterloo power play. The Storm had nine shots in the first, but smacked a period-best 23 on goal in the second to finish with a 32-24 shot edge after 40 minutes. In Game 2 of the Conference Semifinals against Sioux Falls, Tri-City had a then-best 22 shots on net.

In the third, Tri-City turned to its stout defense, limiting Waterloo to seven shots and securing the shutout. Dan Labosky slung an empty-net goal with 34 seconds left, assisted by Andrew Peski. Labosky leads Tri-City with seven points (2g, 5a) this playoffs.

Walker Duehr cemented the dominance with another empty-net goal at 19:57, assisted by Wahlin.
