Jakaitis Named ECHL Goaltender of the Month

Gladiators Goaltender Jeff Jakaitis has been named the ECHL Goaltender of the Month for December of 2011. Jakaitis was a two time winner of the ECHL Reebok Hockey Goalie of the Week Award in December (Week of December 12th and December 26th).

Jakaitis tied the ECHL record for most consecutive shutouts by a goaltender in ECHL history posting three straight shutouts of the South Carolina Stingrays on December 17th, December 26th and December 28th. He also helped the Gladiators move into first place in the ECHL's South Division.

Jakaitis posted a 5-2-1 record for Gwinnett in eight appearances in December. He notched a 1.12 goals against average and a .959 save percentage in the month.

A native of Rochester, Minnesota, Jakaitis is 10-4-0 this season and leads the ECHL with four shutouts, a 1.66 goals-against average and a .946 save percentage. His four shutouts tied a Gladiators team record originally set by Michael Garnett in 2003-04. He is also one shutout shy of a career season high of five set in the 2008-09 season.

Under contract to Rochester of the American Hockey League, Jakaitis is 45-34-14 with 11 shutouts, a 2.63 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage in 98 career ECHL games with Gwinnett, Charlotte and Columbia. He has also has appeared in 10 career AHL games with Portland and Worcester going 5-3-1 with a 3.27 goals-against average and a save percentage of .901.

The Gladiators are the ECHL Affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres and the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League and are members of the ECHL, the Premier "AA" Hockey League and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
