Altoona Curve News Release

(AKRON, OH) -- Landon Jacobsen carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and the Altoona Curve got just enough offense Friday to defeat the Akron Aeros, 4-1 at Canal Park.

The win snapped a four-game losing streak for Altoona (28-25). Akron (25-28) has lost six of the seven games it has played against the Curve this season.

Jacobsen, who came into the game with an ERA of 7.20 over his first 10 appearances, retired 19 straight batters after walking Scott Pratt to lead off the first inning.

Franklin Gutierrez broke up the right-hander's no-hit bid with a broken-bat single into shallow left with one out in the seventh inning. Jacobsen matched the club record by pitching 6 1/3 hitless innings to start a game. Paul Ah Yat took a perfect game through 6 1/3 frames at Bowie on April 25, 1999 before getting it broken up on a solo home run by Ivanon Coffie.

Jacobsen wound up allowing a run on two hits over 6 1/3 in getting the win. He walked one and struck out six.

Blake Stein finished the game in style by striking out the side in the eighth and ninth innings for his fifth save of the season.

Offensively, Nate McLouth extended his hitting streak to 10 games with an RBI single in the ninth. McLouth also had a sacrifice fly earlier in the game and leads the Curve with 27 RBI.

Chris Duffy had a hit, stole two bases, and scored twice and Jeff Keppinger counted a single and an RBI for the Curve.

Andrew Brown (1-1) allowed two runs on just one hit in his 4 2/3 innings in taking the loss for Akron.

Game two of the series at Canal Park is Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Curve lefty Mike Connolly (4-4, 5.70) will oppose Aeros' right-hander Kyle Evans (1-2, 6.92).
