Hagerstown Suns News Release

HAGERSTOWN, MD - With heavy rains bombarding the field at Municipal Stadium and a delay imminent, first baseman Robbie Jacobsen rifled a single just inside the left-field foul line to score shortstop Jose Lozada and give the Hagerstown Suns (10-12) a 3-2 extra-inning win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers (15-11) in the second game of a doubleheader. After dropping the early game 3-1, the Suns let a late 2-1 lead slip away in Game Two and were in danger of a sweep until their hottest hitter came through with the game-winner.

Lozada and designated hitter Derek Norris drew walks in to bring up Jacobsen with runners on first and second and two outs. Needing a hit to extend his South Atlantic League season-high hitting streak to 16 games, Jacobsen coolly connected on the pitch from Grasshopper reliever Andrew Loomis (1-2) to secure Hagerstown's third win in six 2009 extra-inning affairs.

The Suns had taken a 2-1 lead into the top of the seventh inning on the strength of a fifth-inning solo homerun by left fielder Aaron Seuss. But down to its final strike, Greensboro battled back with a single up the middle by Justin Bass that tied the game. After the Suns went scoreless in the bottom of the inning, Hagerstown reliever Chris Lugo (2-0) worked out of trouble in the eighth - successfully inducing two putouts at home plate - to keep the game tied and set the stage for the Suns' final rally.

The dramatic win was exactly what Hagerstown needed after having its four-game winning streak snapped by the 3-1 loss earlier in the day. The Grasshoppers jumped on Suns'starter Jack McGeary (0-2) early, scoring all three of their runs in the top of the second inning on three hits, a walk, and a wild pitch.

McGeary settled in from their, pitching six innings to keep Hagerstown in the game, but the Suns offense could manage just one run in the bottom of the third inning, when shortstop Nick Arata delivered an RBI groundout to score right fielder Stephen Englund, who had doubled off the centerfield wall.

Right-handed starter Johnny Dorn (3-1) picked up the win for Greensboro, allowing just one run on five hits through six innings. Pete Andrelczyk picked up his third save of the season by striking out the side in the ninth.
