Jacksonville Sharks News Release
JACKSONVILLE - The ArenaBowl XXIV Champion Jacksonville Sharks announced Wednesday that a healthy Omar Jacobs has been named the team's starting quarterback for Saturday's home opener against the Georgia Force.
After being informed of this decision, quarterback Chris Leak did not show up to meetings or practice as instructed and was immediately suspended.
The Sharks added a quarterback to the roster Wednesday, as the team has been assigned rookie Herbert Bynes. The 24-year-old Bynes (6'3", 245) attended Hampton University, where he was a teammate of current Shark offensive lineman Michael Ola.
Bynes enjoyed his best season as a Pirate in 2008, starting all 11 games and throwing 19 touchdown passes against 10 interceptions en route to Second Team All-MEAC honors. Bynes is a native of Fort Lauderdale, FL.
