Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

San Bernardino, CA - The Quakes used the long ball for the second straight night, rolling over the Inland Empire 66ers for an 8-1 victory in the opening game of a three-game series in San Bernardino on Friday night.

Gabe Jacobo hit a pair of home runs for the second straight night, while Dillon Baird ripped a 415-foot shot to center field, helping the Quakes win for the second straight game and for the third time in their last four.

Quakes' starter Orangel Arenas overcame some first-inning trouble and put forth a solid effort, as he combined with two relievers to limit the Inland Empire offense to just three hits.

The Quakes took a 1-0 lead in the first, when Alberto Rosario scored from third base while Baird was intentionally caught trying to steal second base.

Arenas gave up a game-tying double to Scott Van Slyke in the first, but got out of a bases-loaded one-out jam, keeping the game tied at 1-1.

Angel Castillo's RBI single put the Quakes ahead to stay in the second, as he brought in Clay Fuller for a 2-1 lead.

Baird destroyed an Ethan Martin pitch in the third, blasting his tenth homer of the year to straight-away center field, a two-run shot to make it 4-1.

Jacobo started a three-run rally in the fifth, with a solo homer off of Martin, his 15th of the year to make it 5-1. Castillo added an RBI single and Kevin Ramos brought home a run with a ground ball, helping the Quakes take a 7-1 advantage and chasing Martin (9-8) from the game.

Jacobo capped the scoring with another solo home run, his 16th of the year and fourth in two games, making it 8-1 against 66ers' reliever Robert Boothe in the ninth.

The Quakes' bullpen wrapped up another solid ninth with four perfect innings of relief. Christian Scholl retired all nine hitters he faced, before Baudilio Lopez, who was just called up from the Arizona League Angels, retired all three he faced in the ninth.

Arenas (4-1) earned the win, allowing just one run on three hits over five innings.

Patrick Corbin (5-3) will look to make it a three-game winning streak for the first-place Quakes (17-12, 56-43) on Saturday night, as he'll take the ball for Rancho Cucamonga. The 66ers have not yet named a starter for Saturday's game. Game time from Arrowhead Credit Union Park will be 7:05pm

The Quakes return to The Epicenter on Tuesday, July 27th, as they host the San Jose Giants in a three-game series. The upcoming home stand includes Terra Vista Animal Hospital "Bark in the Ballpark" on Wednesday, July 28th. Tickets can be purchased by calling (909) 481-5000 or anytime online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at The Epicenter...Go Quakes!
