Jacksonville Sharks News Release
JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville Sharks (9-1) continued their win streak last Saturday night in White Plains, NY against the New York Streets (3-7). This week, the #1 ranked Jacksonville Sharks head down to face their old rivals in Orlando, the last place Orlando Predators (2-8). This will be the third matchup out of four between the Sharks and Predators. The Sharks have won the previous two, which means Jacksonville can take the season series by winning the third. The Predators got shut out for the first time in team history last week 60-0 against the #2 ranked Carolina Cobras (7-3). The Sharks clinched a playoff spot last week and now look to lock up home field advantage with a couple more big wins.
The Sharks Quarterbacks have been extremely successful this year. Jonathan Bane, the team's starter going into the season was just activated from injured reserve. Bane is 133-of-229 (58.08%) for 1,538 passing yards, 32 rushing yards, 32 touchdowns, and only five interceptions. He currently ranks fourth in pass efficiency (102.6 QBR), fourth in passing yards (1,538), tied for fourth in passing attempts (229), fifth in passing completions (133), and fifth in passing touchdowns (33). Mike Fafaul has stepped up and come through big time for the Sharks. Only starting in three games, he falls short of the top 5 in many categories but is currently the NAL leader in pass efficiency with an outstanding QBR of 109.5. This season he is 77-of-116 (66.38%) for 852 yards, 20 touchdowns, and four interceptions. Jacksonville's solid quarterback duo makes the Sharks appear unbeatable with only four games left in the regular season.
The Sharks have continued to improve on the ground, as Fullbacks Alstevis Squirewell and Zack Brown have had their touch of success this season. Squirewell is now third in the NAL for rushing yards (93). While Zack Brown is leading the league with rushing touchdowns with six. Even after an off-week last week, Wide Receiver Devin Wilson still leads the league in receptions (79) and receiving touchdowns (21). He has since moved to second in receiving yards (918). After a while of not seeing the top 10, Jarmon Fortson is climbing up the leaderboards, having 54 receptions for 607 yards and 13 touchdowns. Durron Neal led the team in receiving last week against the Streets with nine receptions for 149 yards, and two receiving touchdowns.
On defense, the Sharks continue to dominate the league totaling 26 sacks. Defensive Lineman Nick Woodman leads the league in sacks with eight. Defensive Back Seth Ellis is the NAL league's leader in interceptions with 10.
This week, the Sharks face a shaken Predators team that will be eager to put points on the board after going scoreless in week 12. Friday's game will be played at the Amway Center in Orlando, FL. There will be a Sharks Fan Bus for fans looking to go to the game. For more information on the bus, please visit www.jaxsharks.com. Unable to make it to the game?
