
Jacksonville defeats Carolina

Carolina Mudcats News Release
Zebulon, NC- The Carolina Mudcats (1-5) were shutout 7-0 by the Jacksonville Suns (5-1) Saturday night at Five County Stadium. Starting pitcher Nic Ungs (W, 4-1) beat the Mudcats for the second time during the six-game series, tossing six shutout innings in his second start. Brad Stone and Jay Voss combined for the final three innings while preserving the shutout. Jordan Smith struggled in his return from the DL, giving up three earned runs over five innings on the mound. Ramon Geronimo surrendered five earned runs in an inning plus in relief of Smith. Ruben Medina and Logan Ondrusek combined to shutout the Suns for the final three innings. The Mudcats scattered their four hits between four players. Juan Francisco, Jose Castro and Zach Cozart each doubled. Catcher Chris Denove left the game in the 1st inning with a hand injury after a collision with Lorenzo Scott. After losing five-of-six to Jacksonville, the Mudcats will head to Chattanooga for a six-game series with the Lookouts. Lefty Travis Wood (8-3, 1.27) will start the series opener for the Carolina against J.D. Durbin (0-2, 1.75) of Chattanooga.
