Jackson Re-Signs for 6th Season; 'Hawks Acquire Paramore

FARGO, ND - Nic Jackson was always intending to come back to Fargo this summer, but now his return is official. The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have re-signed the two-time league MVP for a sixth season, and also purchased the contract of C Petey Paramore from the Kansas City T-Bones.

Jackson, 34, batted .297 with 23 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs, 69 RBIs and 64 runs scored in 99 games and helped guide the RedHawks to a second-straight American Association North Division title. Jackson was the Northern League Player of the Year in 2009 and the American Association Player of the Year in 2012.

Jackson enters the 2014 season at or near the top in several RedHawks career categories. His 391 RBIs are best all-time in RedHawks history, while his 65 home runs are tied with Jesse Hoorelbeke for the top spot. Jackson should surpass Joe Mathis for the top spot on both the doubles and hits list. He enters this season with 133 doubles (three behind Mathis) and 590 hits (92 behind Mathis).

Jackson will begin his 14th season of professional baseball when he meets up with the RedHawks in Grand Prairie., TX for the last of the club's exhibition games on Tuesday. Jackson has missed most of training camp due to school and is graduating on Sunday from the University of Richmond (VA).

Paramore, 27, joins the RedHawks after splitting time last year between the Lancaster Barnstormers of the Atlantic League and the Kansas City T-Bones. With Kansas City, he batted .264 with 12 doubles, four home runs, 21 RBIs and 25 runs scored in 47 games. He posted a .403 on-base percentage and drew 34 walks while striking out just 23 times.

Paramore was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the third round of the 2008 draft out of Arizona State University. He advanced to the Triple-A level with the A's in 2012. In his six-year career, Paramore has batted .234 with 56 doubles, one triple, 26 home runs and 164 RBIs in 416 games.

In other roster moves, the RedHawks released C Marcus Nidiffer and RHP Stephen Richter, and removed OF Nick Colwell from the roster. Colwell was in camp as a non-roster invitee.
