Odessa Jackalopes News Release
ODESSA, TX - Sebastian Frantz may have to go by a new nickname... "Mr. Overtime". Frantz's second overtime goal lifted Odessa over the rival Amarillo Bulls 5-4 on Friday night at the Ector County Coliseum.
The game did not exactly start as the Jacks would've liked it. Less than four minutes into the hockey game Ryan Lautenback scored to make it 1-0 Amarillo.
The Jackalopes however gained some momentum midway through the period after a very physical shift by Brendan Coughlin.
Since that shift momentum was on the Jacks' side and eventually they were rewarded.
Zach Heintz was able to coral a bouncing puck from a Bull defensemen and sent a hard wrister top-shelf to tie the game 1-1.
A few minutes later Connor Fedorek scored off a point shot to give Odessa a 2-1 lead.
Though the Bulls would tie the game 2-2 in the second period, the Jackaloeps countered a few minutes later. Michael Sacco saw a point shot produce a rebound and, being in perfect position to make the play, deposited the rebound for his first goal as a Jackalope.
But once again though the Bulls countered with a power-play goal to tie the game up again, this time at 3-3.
The third period was hard fought but saw the Jacks take a 4-3 lead off a great individual effort by Jared Christy. This 4-3 Odessa lead held until the final minute when Amarilllo scored with six attackers on the ice to force overtime.
The Jackalopes, playing their fourth extra-regulation game in the last six, were used to playing overtime games at this point. Chances were exchanged at both ends but the decisive moment came when Jared Christy streaked in and forced a shot and an awkward save by the Amarillo netminder. Down and out, and with the puck lying in front of an open net. Sebastian Frantz picked up the rebound and buried it into the net.
With the win, the Jacks improve to 9-10-1 on the season and are back in 5th place in the NAHL South division fallowing Corpus Christi's loss to Lone Star.
