Amarillo Bulls News Release
ODESSA, TX - A late comeback by the Amarillo Bulls fell short on Friday night at Ector County Coliseum.
Sebastian Frantz scored the game winning goal with 1:18 remaining in overtime to lift the hometown Odessa Jackalopes past the Bulls 5-4 in a wild game that featured eight lead changes.
Logan Jenuwine scored twice for the Bulls to extend his goal streak to four games, while Ryan Lautenbach and Jason Brancheau had the others. Brancheau tied the game with 52 seconds left when the Bulls pulled their goaltender in favor of an extra attacker. Justin Evenson took the loss in goal.
The Bulls got off to a fast start and scored the game's first goal. Ryan Lautenbach followed up a Gabriel Seger rebound and pushed it behind the Odessa netminder. However, in the second half of the first period, it was Odessa that changed the momentum in its favor. Zach Heinz scored off a steal inside the Bulls blue line as he took the puck away from Jake Willets with a high stick. A short time later, Connor Fedorek scored off a shot from the face-off. The Jackalopes outshot the Bulls 13-10.
The second period featured an even quicker start by the Bulls as Logan Jenuwine scored on a pretty passing play from Gabriel Seger at the 11 second mark. The Jackalopes made it 3-2 when Michael Sacco was left alone at the side of the net. The Bulls power play got rolling as Jenuwine hammered a shot past the goaltender. The play was set up by a great pass from Jason Brancheau. The Bulls outshot Odessa 13-8 in the middle stanza.
Odessa raced out to another one goal lead early in the third period when Jared Christy made a great move on the Bulls defense. It was a wild finish down the stretch in regulation and with the goaltender pulled, Jason Brancheau found an opening at the side of the net and able to squeeze the puck past to force overtime.
The extra session was played at a high tempo and Logan Jenuwine had two big chances early on but was unable to connect. Sebastian Frantz and Jared Christy raced down the ice and it was Frantz who stuffed home a rebound on the short side.
The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Odessa Jackalopes 47-37. The visiting Bulls had all four power plays on the evening and just scored once.
