Odessa Jackalopes News Release
ODESSA, TX - The Odessa Jackalopes were riding high coming into Thursday noght's meeting with the fourth-placed Corpus Christi IceRays. The Jacks had won three out of their past four games, but Thursday presented the Jackalopes with a mountain they have yet to climb this season. In the previous nine meetings, the IceRays were 9-0-0-0. With Kenny Hausinger and Dakoda Menslage both serving suspensions, it was going to be even more difficult for the Jacks.
The first period began with the Jackalopes peppering the IceRays goaltender Andrew Lindgren, who came in with a 5-0-0-0 record against the Jacks this season. Odessa outshot Corpus Christi 12-2 at one point in the first. The IceRays woke up in the final 10 minutes of the period, to bring the shot totals a bit closer. Both goalies reigned supreme in period one. The Jackalopes outshot the IceRays 16-12 in the first.
After an even second, the Jacks finally broke the scoreless tie at 17:28 on Corey Hoffman's (Cornell) eighth goal of the season. Hoffman broke behind the defense and jammed loose a rebound behind Lindgren. After 40 minutes, the Jackalopes had a 1-0 lead.
The IceRays wasted little time in the third period, tying the game at the 28 second mark. Wes Michaud got a pass that went into the net off his skate, but was ruled a good goal. Just 28 seconds later, Corey Hoffman gave the Jacks the lead back. Razmuz Waxin-Engback found him all by himself off to the left of the net and Hoffman deposited his ninth goal of the season at the 57 second mark. At 10:33, Razmuz Waxin-Engback would cap off a three-point performance with a top-shelf finish to give the Jacks an insurmountable 3-1 advantage. Tanner Creel (UCONN) made 38 saves in the win for the Jacks.
