Joliet JackHammers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, IL - The Joliet JackHammers set the tone early Friday night, scoring three times in the top of the first against the Schaumburg Flyers at Alexian Field. Joliet plated six more and took a 9-0 lead when play was suspended due to rain in the top of the fourth with one on and nobody out. The completion of the suspended game will resume tomorrow night with the regularly scheduled game to follow. The second contest will now be a seven inning contest.
The JackHammers sent eight hitters to the plate in the first and second innings against Brett Harker, scoring seven times. Brad Correll, Jon Nelson and Chris Colton each knocked in a run with singles in the first.
Nelson collected another RBI in the second with a bases loaded walk. Freddie Thon then doubled home two more and Colton ended the scoring in the second with a sacrifice fly for a 7-0 lead.
Todd Privett allowed a leadoff single to Brandon Newton, but got a double play ball off the bat of Travis Brown. The lefty hasn't allowed another runner and has faced the minimum through three innings.
Thon started the fourth with a triple and scored on a Colton single before play was stopped. Thon is now only a home run away from the cycle.
The regularly scheduled game tomorrow night will feature Rory Shortell (2-6) against Dustin Glant (7-4). The completion of the suspended game will resume at 5:00 p.m. with a 4:50 p.m. pre-game show on 1340 WJOL.
