Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets couldn't get the bats to produce before the heavens opened up, dumping enough rain to hand the Hickory Crawdads a 6-0 win in a game halted in the bottom of the seventh inning on Monday at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
Craig Clark was erratic throughout, walking four and hitting two in his shortest start of the year - just 4.2 innings. The Crawdads scored a pair of runs after Clark loaded the bases in the second. Matt West was drilled on the elbow to bring in the first while Yefry Castillo's groundout brought in the second in the inning.
In the third, a two-out walk proved damaging as it was followed by Vinny DiFazio's run-scoring double to extend the Hickory advantage to three. Clark's night would end in the third after allowing RBI doubles to Jared Prince and Jared Bolden. Clark (2-2) allowed six runs on six hits while striking out four in the loss. Hickory's sixth run came home after Clark departed on a run-scoring hit by Guillermo Pimentel.
Clark wasn't the only Augusta pitcher to have issues finding the strike zone as four GreenJackets hurlers combined to walk seven and hit three batters. On the flip side, Clark's counterpart Neil Ramirez finished with a season-high 10 strikeouts in his eighth win of the year. Ramirez (8-7) fired six scoreless frames of five-hit baseball without allowing a walk in only his second win this month.
The game was halted with one out in the seventh inning after Eliezer Zambrano grounded out on the first pitch. The umpires declared the game final after a 30-minute delay.
The GreenJackets will need a win on Friday to earn a series split with the Crawdads and a winning homestand. Andy Reichard (1-0, 4.01) takes the ball for the Jackets and will face Braeden Tullis (4-0, 2.51).First pitch will come at 7:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 6:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.
