Jackals Win Fourth Straight
June 1, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Jersey Jackals News Release
Jeff Lanning's two-run home run in the second inning put the Jackals up 3-0, propelling them to their fourth straight win, beating Worcester 5-2.
Jackals pitching was fantastic. Starter Jon Kibler allowed only a run on four hits in five and two-thirds innings pitched. Zach Woods, Jimmer Kennedy, and Mike Zenko finished, allowing only one run on two hits.
The defense was stellar too, devoid of an error for the second straight game. Second baseman Gaetano Giunta flashed the leather in two consecutive at-bats in the home half of the third - a fully extended diving catch followed by an over-the-shoulder bread basket catch in foul territory.
He also extended his hitting streak to 11.
In a manageable two hours and twenty-six minutes, the Jackals improve to 9-5, hanging on to their half game lead atop the Can-Am standings. The second place Quebec Capitales defeated the Rockland Boulders 18-5.
The Worcester Tornadoes received national headlines in the off-season when they signed 47 year-old former MVP Jose Canseco. However, Canseco did not play in tonight's game, his first DNP of the year.
Tomorrow, Kyle Greenwalt (1-0, 4.21 ERA) takes the hill for New Jersey, while Dan Sausville (2-0, 2.25) will for the Tornadoes. First pitch from Worcester is 7:05pm.
The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ. 2012 single-game tickets, season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 973-746-7434.
