Jackals Pounce on Tornadoes, Win 5-2

June 1, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Although Ryan Bicondoa was able to keep the ball in the park in his last start, he was unable to do so in the game tonight, giving up two round-trippers in a 5-2 loss against the New Jersey Jackals at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.

The Tornadoes pitching coach left a pitch over the plate to Jeff Lanning, which he crushed onto the dirt path behind the fence for a two run home run in the second inning.

Angel Berroa also turned on a Bicondoa pitch for a solo home run in the fifth inning to add to the Jackals lead.

The Tornadoes were able to collect a run back on a Nick Salotti single up the middle that scored Brandon Pinckney, but it was too little too late as the Tornadoes fall to a 4-7 record.

Bicondoa gets his first loss in his first decision of 2012. He lasted seven innings, getting tagged with all five runs and collecting seven strikeouts along the way.

Kyle Regnault came in to pitch two perfect innings to give the Tornadoes a chance to rally, collecting four strikeouts in the process. He lowered his ERA from 2.46 to 1.59, which now ties him for the team's second best reliever ERA in 2012.

Meanwhile, Jackals lefthander Jon Kibler collects his second win of the season, going five and two thirds innings, only allowing one run of four hits and recording three strikeouts. He left the game in the sixth inning after Jerod Edmondson lined a ball into his right thigh, although he appeared not to be injured on the play.

The highlight in the otherwise quiet offense for the Tornadoes was once again Brandon Pinkney, who reached base twice on a walk and a hit and scored a run. He is now hitting .320, which is the second best batting average on the Tornadoes.

The Tornadoes play the Jackals again tomorrow in a 7:05 tilt. Right handed pitcher Dan Sausville (2-0) will be matched up with righty Kyle Greenwalt (1-0). Sausville is pitching for the first time in Worcester as part of the home side in his career.

Tickets are still available for tomorrow's game. You can buy tickets before the game at our box office in front of the main gate at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field, or you can buy tickets online anytime right here. The gates will open at 6:00pm before the game at 7:05pm tomorrow night.
