New Jersey Jackals News Release

The official statistician of the Can-Am League, Pointstreak, has announced that New Jersey Jackals RHP Vic Black (pictured) has been named this week's Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 1.

The Amarillo, Texas, native tossed a gem on Thursday against the Salina Stockade. In a 6-2 win at Yogi Berra Stadium, Black worked seven shutout innings, scattering three hits and three walks. Black fanned nine Stockade hitters en route to earning the win, his first of the season.

Black is now 1-2 with a 3.81 ERA and a save on the season. He has made 11 appearances for New Jersey, five in the starting role.

The former Dallas Baptist University Patriot is in his first season in independent baseball after a lengthy career in the affiliated ranks that saw him reach the Major League level. Black was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft, and debuted in the Major Leagues with Pittsburgh in 2013. After three appearances with the Pirates, Black was a September call-up with the New York Mets in 2013, making 15 appearances. Black was 3-0 with a 3.71 ERA and a save in his debut Major League season in 2013. He returned to the Mets for 41 games in 2014, posting a 2-3 record and 2.60 ERA. Black remained in the Mets system for the 2015 season, and after missing 2016, spent 2017 with the Richmond Flying Squirrels, Class AA affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.

The Jackals will open a series at the Sussex County Miners tonight at 7:05 p.m. at Skylands Stadium. The game, like all in the Can-Am League, can be seen live and for free at www.canamleague.tv.
